Bill Gates: America’s Wealthiest Entrepreneur, 1955–


Bill Gates was born in 1955 in Seattle. His father was a lawyer, and his mother served on the board of a bank. Gates began programming computers at the age of 13. In 1973, he entered Harvard University but dropped out in his sophomore year to co-found Microsoft with Paul Allen. At Microsoft, he developed personal computers and created the Windows operating system, serving as CEO until 2000, after which he remained as chairman. In 2014, he stepped down as chairman and became a technology advisor, focusing on philanthropy.

By 2018, Gates had accumulated $90 billion in wealth. He pledged to donate his entire fortune to charitable causes through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He has contributed significant funds to combat diseases such as HIV/AIDS in Africa.

Gates has also actively supported China’s development initiatives, including poverty alleviation, the Belt and Road projects, and nuclear energy development, making seven visits to China.
